The Hensel Cemetery was included in the WPA survey of cemeteries which indicated that it covered .06 acres and contained the remains of Henry Hensel, a veteran of the Civil War. The cemetery was located behind the former Ryan School Building which was demolished in 1980. The site was subsequently converted into a park and the cemetery was apparently destroyed at that time. The left field area of the existing baseball diamond is the site of the former cemetery.
Former area resident, Doris J. Wollam, of Bonita Springs, Florida, reports that late her father-in-law, Frank L. Wollam (1903-1988), said that when the school was torn down and the park put into place, the gravestones were "pushed" into the creek south and east of the large tree. In addition to Hensel family members, the cemetery reportedly contained remains of several members of the Beach family which were the first residents of the village of Frankfort which was later renamed Jerome.
A visit to the site of the former cemetery does reveal various pieces of concrete and stone debris in the fill areas along the southeastern corner of the park, but it is not clear whether any pieces of debris were part of cemetery monuments or merely construction material from the former school building. No inscriptions are found on any pieces at the surface.
