The History of Union County, Ohio (1883) does not record the cemetery's name. Instead, it simply refers to it indicating that it was a short distance west of Squire Isaac Brodrick's residence. Isaac Brodrick is mentioned several times in that history, and his surname is routinely recorded as Brodrick. His wife appears to be the only family member buried in the cemetery, and her surname is recorded on her monument as Brodrick. Yet, the cemetery became known as the Broderick Cemetery.

Condition/Remarks | The cemetery is visible from the road and is regularly mowed. However, as with most cemeteries dating from the nineteenth century, many of the monuments are broken or have fallen, and some monuments appearing in previous transcriptions have since disappeared. Some monuments, particularly on the western edge of the cemetery, become engulfed in vegetation in spring and summer so that they may be better viewed other times of the year. |
The History of Union County, Ohio (1883) indicates in one section that the first burial occurred here in 1833 with the death of Erastus Williams, who died July 29, 1833, a child of Amos A. Williams. However, in another section, the history indicates that the first burial occurred in 1832 with the death of Daniel Allen, who reportedly died Aug. 2, 1832. There is no monument for Erastus Williams found in the cemetery today, and the Daniel Allen monument appears to record the year as 1839, although twos and nines often have a very similar appearance on monuments from that era.
The History of Union County, Ohio (1883) indicates that there were two or three other places in Allen Township where one or more persons had been buried in earlier days. However, they were not included in the WPA survey of cemeteries so that all obvious traces of these cemeteries must have disappeared before the early 1940s.
